Therapy in Leiden, Amsterdam and online

What my in-person and online therapy is, and what it isn’t

The work I offer is depth-oriented and meaning-centred. It is not a structured programme with a fixed endpoint, but a sustained conversation that gradually makes it possible to understand what's actually going on beneath whatever brought you here.

Minimalist workspace prepared for online psychotherapy session

The foundation is logotherapy, a framework concerned with meaning, identity, and how people make sense of their lives. This kind of work takes longer than short-term approaches. The aim is not only to reduce symptoms, but to understand the deeper structure of experience that produced them, and gradually reorganize it. The result is often something more durable: a clearer sense of who you are and what truly matters to you.

Sessions are conducted online, in English or Slovene, with clients based in the Netherlands and across Europe. For those who prefer to meet face to face, in-person sessions are also available at studios in Leiden and Amsterdam.

What people bring to therapy

There isn't a required level of distress for therapy to be worthwhile. Some people arrive in genuine crisis. Others arrive with something less defined — a persistent flatness, a relationship slowly fraying, a sense that life has quietly stopped feeling like their own. Both are valid.

The concerns I work with most often include anxiety that intensified after a move; identity and belonging questions that relocation tends to surface; relationship difficulties; grief; trauma; depression; and the directionlessness that arrives when the structures a person built their life around no longer apply. If you're uncertain whether your situation fits, the first session is the right place to find out.

How therapy sessions work in practice

Sessions are 50 minutes, weekly, and take place online via a secure encrypted video platform, or in person at a private studio in Leiden or Amsterdam. We begin with a free 15-minute introductory call — a chance to talk about what's brought you here and to see whether this feels like a space worth returning to. No preparation needed, no obligation to continue.

For couples I offer sessions of 75 or 90 minutes. I work with a small number of clients at a time, which means each person's process gets the attention it requires.

If you already have a clearer sense of what you are looking for, you can read more about the different ways of working together.

Individual therapy

One-to-one sessions for anxiety, burnout, grief, identity questions, and periods of transition. It suits you if what's weighing on you is mostly your own, and you want a steady place to think it through at your own pace.

Couples therapy

Longer sessions for partners dealing with recurring conflict, distance, or conversations that keep breaking down, or carrying a shared life abroad at different speeds. Both of you get room to be heard.

Expat therapy

For people who have moved countries and found it harder than they expected. We might talk about relocation, culture shock, loneliness, belonging or a cross-cultural relationship. Reverse culture shock after moving back belongs here too. If you've been looking for expat counselling in English, this is it.

Online therapy

Private video sessions for clients across the Netherlands and Europe. You receive a link and join through your browser. Nothing to download. Many expats choose online sessions because they can continue after a move or during work travel.

Which type of therapy is right for me?

There's no wrong way in. The formats overlap, and people sometimes begin with one before moving to another. A few rough guides can help.

i.

The difficulty is mainly personal

Individual therapy is the usual place to start.

ii.

The strain sits between you and your partner

Couples therapy gives the relationship space of its own.

iii.

The move is at the centre

Perhaps through loneliness, language or the feeling that you don't belong anywhere yet. Expat therapy focuses on that experience.

Choosing between online and in-person therapy is mostly a matter of convenience. The work is the same, so choose the format you'll actually attend. If you're unsure, use the free 15-minute call to talk it through.

Therapy fees and session structure

Therapy is private-pay and is not reimbursed by Dutch health insurance.

At €125, individual sessions sit within the standard range for private psychological support in the Netherlands. The free introductory call exists to lower the threshold enough that you can find out whether this work feels right before committing to the full fee. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are charged in full.

Sliding scale & reduced rates (€90) I believe therapy should remain accessible during challenging periods. I reserve a limited number of spaces at a reduced fee of €90 per individual session for students, job-seekers, or anyone in a period of financial instability, as well as individuals navigating significant life transitions or temporary financial dependency. If you feel this applies to you, please tick the sliding scale box while booking your introductory call, and we will discuss your situation together on the call.
