Privacy Policy – Ontara Therapy

How I handle your personal information

Trust is the foundation of therapeutic work. That extends to how your personal information is treated — not just inside sessions, but from the moment you first make contact.

This page explains what information this website collects, how it's used, and what rights you have in relation to it. If anything here raises a question, you're welcome to write to me directly at info@ontara-therapy.nl.

What information is collected and why

When you contact me through the website form, by email, phone, or via Signal, the information you provide — your name, email address, and phone number where relevant — is used for one purpose only: to respond to your inquiry and, if appropriate, to schedule and conduct therapy sessions.

Your personal information is never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. It is never used for automated profiling, remarketing, or any purpose beyond what is described here, except where required by Dutch law.

Technical Service Providers (Data Processors)

To run this website securely and deliver inquiries, I work with selected technical service providers who act strictly as data processors on my behalf, bound by data protection obligations in line with GDPR:

Formspree (Form Processing): When you submit a booking or contact request through the form on our website, your submission (name, email, session preference, and optional message) is transmitted securely via Formspree Inc. to my professional email inbox. Formspree acts solely as a technical transmission processor and does not use your information for its own purposes.

Umami Analytics (Website Measurement): To measure visitor traffic and assess our outreach without using tracking cookies, as detailed below.

Website Analytics

We use Umami Analytics to understand how visitors find and use our website, to measure the reach of external directory listings (such as our IamExpat directory listing), and to improve the clarity and quality of the information we provide.

Our analytics setup is designed to be privacy-friendly and does not use tracking cookies or advertising identifiers. It does not store or read information on your device (terminal equipment). Instead, it measures aggregate website visits, pages viewed, general traffic sources, marketing campaign references, and selected interactions, such as clicks on our introductory-call booking buttons.

Visitor Privacy and Confidentiality: Because Ontara Therapy is a psychological practice, visitor privacy is treated with the highest degree of care. We do not use analytics to create advertising profiles or track users across different websites. We do not track form fields, submitted messages, health concerns, or any patient-specific information. All web addresses are sanitized before measurement so that only approved campaign parameters (such as directory source tags) are recorded, and no personal or sensitive queries can ever be collected.

Lawful Basis & Cookie Consent Exemption: Analytics data is processed under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR on the basis of our legitimate interest in assessing website usability and outreach performance with minimal privacy impact. Because this privacy-friendly configuration uses no cookies, stores no persistent identifiers on your device, does not track you across other websites, and has negligible impact on privacy, it qualifies for the statutory exemption under Article 11.7a(3) of the Dutch Telecommunications Act (Telecommunicatiewet) and does not require prior cookie consent.

Processor & Data Transfers: Analytics information is processed through Umami Software, Inc. (Umami Cloud). Umami generates temporary, daily rotating cryptographic session hashes and does not store raw IP addresses. For more information about Umami and its privacy practices, visit https://umami.is.

Data usage and storage

All personal information is stored securely and retained only for as long as necessary to provide services or to meet the legal and professional obligations that apply in this field.

Everything is handled in accordance with the GDPR and the professional confidentiality standards required in psychotherapy practice.

A note on Signal

If you choose to make contact via Signal, please be aware that while Signal uses end-to-end encryption, communication through any external application involves a third-party provider. By initiating contact through Signal, you consent to your contact data being processed through that channel.

Your rights

You have the right to request access to the personal data I hold about you, to have it corrected, to restrict how it's processed, or to have it deleted. You also have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. To make any of these requests, you can write to me at info@ontara-therapy.nl. I'll respond as promptly as I can.

Questions

If you have any questions about how your information is handled, or if something here isn't clear, please get in touch directly.
